From Tuesday 19th to Thursday 21st December, our students repeat the annual tradition of going to the cinema at the end of the first term before Christmas holidays. This year, the two movies in original version of choice were the critically acclaimed release of the “The Hunger Games”,a prequel called “The Ballad of Song Birds & Snakes”(translated into Spanish as “Los Juegos del Hambre”–“La Balada de Pájaros Cantores y Serpientes”) and a Disney’s new movie “Wish” (translated into Spanish as “El Poder de Los Deseos”).
The decision to watch the movie in English responds to a necessity of inspiring the young students’ desire to learn another language, and simultaneously show them the progress that they’ve already made so far. Both “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Song birds & Snakes”, which is a 2023 American dystopian action film directed by Francis Lawrence based on the 2020 novel The Ballad of Song Birds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins, and “Wish” have been an unforgettable experience for both youngsters and their teachers. We will give no more details, as we don’t want to spoil the experience for our readers…
If it is an available option, always watch movies in the original language: this way you will be able to enjoy slippery subtle details that are usually lost in translation!
